David Walsh Chairman Ballincollig GAA Club
We at Ballincollig GAA are a very forward thinking Club and are always looking for new ways to bring a more professional feel to our players to help them get the most out of themselves. A couple of years ago we were approached by the Oriel House Hotel to help with this, the team at the Oriel put many valuable suggestions forward and have been very generous with their time and facilities to help us improve, from this initial meeting a wonderful friendship and partnership was born. Roll on 2 years and I am delighted to say we have already seen the fruits of this relationship deliver. Since coming together we have won a couple of County titles and have enjoyed some fantastic victory celebrations in the Oriel along with a very successful fundraiser The staff have always done everything they can to facilitate our needs be it from a nutritional need or a recovery session, the Oriel has always been most generous and helpful, and we are very thankful for their backing of our Club. I cannot thank The Oriel House Hotel enough for all they have done for us over the last number of years, and look forward to our continued friendship for many years to come. The Oriel House Hotel is always thinking of ways to help the local community and backs it up with their support, a truly wonderful hotel with magnificent staff.

Ballincollig........a best kept secret! While queueing in in Kildare Village about two years ago, I got chatting to a woman just ahead of me. She told me she was visiting from Monaghan – and I mentioned I was from Cork. She proceeded to tell me that she had a real soft spot for Cork and that each year for the past five or six years, along with her Mum and three sisters she spent a weekend in the Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig and always had a wonderful time. Ballincollig ticked all the boxes for them, she said. Her Mum loved a stroll in the Regional Park along the River Lee, and the Hotel is just a short walk from the Town Centre. Two of her sisters are keen golfers and it is a real attraction that there are two golf courses literally at either end of the town - Lee Valley & Muskerry. She was very complimentary of the Oriel House Hotel; it is so comfortable, the food is a very high standard, the staff are excellent and the Pool and Gym facilities are hard to beat. Well anyone that knows me – knows how passionate I am about Ballincollig. I was absolutely gobsmacked. I was so sure that she was going to say they stayed in Kinsale or Clonakilty or even further down West Cork. Her feedback on my home town made me feel so proud. Then it got me thinking – Ballincollig really must be the best kept secret in the Country! A town that has won eight Gold medals in the National Tidy Towns and the overall National Runner-up in 2018. In 2019 Ballincollig was named the “National Enterprise Town – City Area Winner”. The Hotel itself won “Hotel of the year” in 2019. Those of us lucky enough to live in Ballincollig know how great it is – and clearly these Monaghan girls know how great it is. So once this current set back is over, we would love to share what we've got here to visitors.

Ballincollig Tidy Towns has using The Oriel House Hotel since the first day it opened. During that time we have had countless functions , meetings and our weekly Sunday Morning Cuppa after our litter pick. At all times we have been given nothing but a first class service by every member of staff and management. The one single item that is constant in The Oriel is the friendliness and professional attitude of the staff. We have had large and small functions but the standard remains constant. Our Weekly Cuppa in The Oriel on a Sunday Morning is the most important part of our week and that is down to the staff and management always making us feel welcome and appreciated Ballincollig Tidy Towns. Having a Hotel and Leisure Centre in Ballincollig is an incredible asset and Talbot Group has certainly made its mark in Ballincollig with The Oriel House Hotel and Leisure Centre. Their professional approach to all aspects of their business is excellent. They have a huge commitment to the greater community and in a lot of ways have become the main meeting point for a lot of community groups. . The friendliness and professionalism of the staff in the hotel is second to none. In the leisure centre the staff at Real Training provide an excellent professional approach to their clients. The facilities in the Leisure Centre are of a very high standard. I have recommended The Oriel House Hotel and Leisure Centre to many people and not one person has ever come back with a negative comment which says a lot
